The Downtown Historic District of New Braunfels is rich in history and German heritage. The New Braunfels downtown was established in 1845 by German immigrants. By the 1850s, New Braunfels was the fourth largest city in Texas and a hub of commerce. You can visit the historic sites in downtown New Braunfels through a self-guided walking tour or self-guided driving tour. There are also many stunning murals to explore in downtown New Braunfels.
One of the oldest buildings you can see is the Stephen Klein House, which was built in 1846. This historic house was built by one of the first commissioners of Comal County. Another interesting historic building to check out is the Henne Tin Shop And Store. It was built in 1856 and sold merchandise for the home. It’s still open today as a retail store.
