Alpine Haus is widely considered one of the three best restaurants in New Braunfels. It’s known as “The Little German Restaurant” around here because they’re serving authentic Bavarian-style cuisine inside of a rustic 164-year-old building in the heart of the city. The talented culinary team at Alpine Haus creates modernized traditional German, Swiss, and Austrian fare, including schnitzel, rinderrouladen, and sauerbraten. The interior of Alpine Haus was been meticulously preserved and charmingly decorated to create an elegant mid-19th-century atmosphere. We highly recommend pairing your authentic Bavarian meal with a bottle of German wine and ordering the black forest cake for dessert.
Seafood – McAdoo’s Seafood Company & Oyster Bar
If you wish to stay near the Main Plaza but want Texas-style creole cuisine and fresh fish, we highly recommend McAdoo’s Seafood Company on Castell Avenue. McAdoo’s operates out of an early-1900s post office, and much of the original foundation remains intact, including the exposed brick, tall ceilings, and large windows. Take a seat next to the oyster bar, sit near the hanging rowboat in the main dining area, or venture out to the newly-renovated, fully-covered outdoor patio. Everything on the menu is delightful, especially the pan-seared Chilean sea bass, blackened New Orleans-style mahi-mahi, and shrimp etouffee – yum!

Barbecue – Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que
For an inexpensive yet finger-licking tray of Texas-style barbecue, we recommend Cooper’s Old Time Pit on the north end of town. Based on flavor, Cooper’s is easily one of the five best restaurants in New Braunfels, and it’s only minutes from our waterfront River City rentals. Cooper’s now has four locations in Texas, but that hasn’t slowed them done as they continue to sling some of the best brisket and ribs in The Lone Star State. The cafeteria-style seating fits perfectly with the restaurant’s style as you’ll be served “big boy” portions of succulent ribs and juicy brisket. Each table has a large jar of free jumbo pickles and bottles of housemade barbecue sauce (which are available for purchase).
